Few locations in Greece compare with Delos, birthplace of Artemis and Apollo and the sacred island of ancient times. The Classical ruins exist in a magical surrounding that is unmatched both for its historical significance and its spiritual serenity. At its height, the sacred island was covered in a variety of temples and sanctuaries dedicated to a variety of gods. Today, it is a fascinating archaeological site located just two miles from Mykonos. Weather permitting, we’ll sail there by Caique with Captain Vangelis. The museum at Delos contains well-preserved works from the classical period. The impressive marble lions dedicated to Apollo at the end of 7th century BC are the sacred survivors of perhaps as many as 16 of the marble beauties. The Maritime Quarter, or main residential area of Ancient Delos contains the ruins of many beautiful mansions and villas, any of them were paved with thr fine mosaics Delos was known for.
